VOICE AS OBJECT, OBJECT (H)AS VOICE

For the duration of the project, we will use the notion of voice and objects in sound as a gateway to other concepts offering a variety of individual and collective experiences.

Voice has many connotations throughout its history. To take it out off the beaten track, with Voice as Object, Object (h)as Voice, we will tackle the issue far from the subject as the source of the voice and the gender studies. Once we hear the voice from a recording, a speaker or through the acoustical reflective structure of a room, the voice could be perceived as a sound that is not different than a sound of a drum, a violin or any other experimental sound. As the listener, the source of the voice -when it is rooted in any living being, be it a human being or an animal- becomes detached from the body and starts acting as an object, like any object in a room. Within this frame, the project be solely focuses on voice becoming detached from its source/ body and becoming an object; and simultaneously on another level - for the ears of the Object Oriented Ontologists - how each object (thus environment) has a voice of itself.

During 3,5 weeks we will tackle the topic of Voice as Object both from perspectives with sound artists, musicians, philosopher of Object Oriented Ontology, ventriloquist, theoreticians of music & sound, and Zen Masters via performances, installations and presentations. We will follow two trajectories:

1. Voice as object, the voice becomes nothing different than a mere music/ sound instrument that we listen to in a recording (be it as a voice that guides us, voice as a material for protest, voice perceived and filtered through electronic devices, etc.)

2. Object (h)as voice, the object that requires a meticulous listening and hearing what it says, hearing what kind of intervention it calls for and in an respectful manner, use that call in creating sound work.

Using these questions as the initial source to shine on our path, in three modules, with experimentation, trial and fail, de-composition and re-composition, we will tackle the topic with collaborative creative processes.
